Fire left a big hole in Solvay’s streetscape years ago. A developer wants to fill it

Solvay, N.Y. – Developer Joe Zavaglia announced plans Tuesday for a mixed-use building containing six shops and 33 apartments on Solvay’s main drag.

Zavaglia, the son of longtime Syracuse-area developer Cosimo Zavaglia, said he hopes to begin construction on the $10 million project in the 2200 block of Milton Avenue this summer after obtaining the necessary municipal permits. Construction will take about a year, he said.

“We’re investing a lot of money in Solvay in hopes of getting other people to invest money in Solvay,” he said during a press conference with Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon and village Mayor Derek Baichi at the site…
