‘I’m not playing with you’: Jackson councilwoman responds to theft

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Copper wire theft is on the rise across the Jackson area. As you can see behind me, another incident of copper theft occurred on McCluer Road, leaving residents in the area without power for several hours.

Ward 6 Councilwoman Lashia Brown Thomas said, “I feel like that we as a city, we need to stick for the punishment. And if you get caught stealing the copper, I will make sure, I will make an ordinance to make sure you pay for what you’re doing.”

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, those living off McCluer Road in south Jackson awoke to find their power out. Councilwoman Thomas confirmed it was due to attempted copper wire theft in the area. She inspected the scene and met with residents. She says this type of theft needs to stop…
