Reaction follows Washoe County DA’s decision to not prosecute in Reno apartment shooting

The Reno Police Department is defending its investigation and arrest of CheMarion Cooks after the Washoe County District Attorney declined to file charges in the 2023 Zephyr Pointe apartment shooting.

In a statement released Monday afternoon after the DA’s decision, Reno police described the case as “tragic” and “complex,” emphasizing that detectives devoted significant time and resources to pursuing all available leads.

“Our detectives dedicated significant time and resources to thoroughly investigating this case and pursuing all available leads,” the department said. “The arrest of Mr. Cooks was lawful and was conducted during the course of this investigation.”…
