MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) — A Mount Pleasant Police sergeant accused of directing subordinates to share answers on a state-required recertification exam has resigned, according to paperwork filed with the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
The documents show Charles Rhett Stafford resigned on Feb. 6. His departure is classified as a resignation “involving misconduct.”
According to the separation form submitted by the department, the alleged misconduct occurred between Nov. 4 and Dec. 5, 2025. The form states Stafford “directed subordinates to share answers to academy Intox DMT Recert” — referring to the certification test officers must pass to remain qualified to operate breathalyzer machines in DUI cases…
