Water in north Alabama county is brown: Here’s why and when it will get better

Water customers in Limestone County will likely see brownish water in the coming days.

A March 3 notice from the Limestone County Water and Sewer Authority said it discovered a “critical system component” that required “immediate attention” on Tuesday. The authority initiated emergency maintenance that has resulted in temporary discoloration of water at the tap in some areas of the county.

Water, the alert noted, may have a brownish, rust-colored or cloudy appearance due to the natural sediment mobilization in the pipes. The water is safe to drink and use for all purposes, it said, and water quality testing confirmed it was within normal parameters…
