Two downstate men, one teen accused of smuggling meth into UP correctional facility

NEWBERRY, Mich. (WBUP/WJMN) — Two men from lower Michigan were arrested following an attempted drug smuggling incident at an Upper Peninsula correctional facility, according to Michigan State Police (MSP).

The incident allegedly happened on Feb. 28 at the Newberry Correctional Facility. Troopers say facility staff alerted them of a possible smuggling attempt. During area surveillance, police conducted a traffic stop on a nearby vehicle.

During subsequent investigation, prison staff found a package inside the prison yard containing approximately 100 grams of methamphetamine and four ounces of THC wax, MSP wrote in its press release…
