System Error Results in Hundreds of Thousands of Unreported L.A. County Criminal Convictions

For decades, the official criminal histories of hundreds of thousands in Los Angeles County have been incomplete. Approximately 380,000 Californians will now have their criminal records updated, which could lead to life-changing consequences.

The Superior Court of Los Angeles released a public notice on Feb. 24, announcing they uncovered a backlog of roughly 464,000 arrest disposition reports (ADRs) for criminal cases that were never logged with the California Department of Justice (DOJ). Roughly 147,000 were felony convictions and 233,000 involved misdemeanor convictions.
