MIAMI, Florida — The Coast Guard Cutter Richard Etheridge intercepted a suspected drug smuggling vessel approximately 8 miles offshore of Miami, seizing narcotics valued at $1.3 million.
The interdiction, which occurred Saturday at around 2:15 p.m., resulted in the discovery of approximately 17 pounds of marijuana and 174 pounds of cocaine, confirmed through laboratory testing, according to the Coast Guard Southeast District. Two individuals suspected of smuggling were taken into custody for further investigation by Homeland Security Investigations.
