California jury awards nearly $19M to former Providence councilor struck in state park

MONTEREY, Calif. (WPRI) — A California jury awarded a former Providence city councilor nearly $19 million after determining the state was responsible for negligently training and supervising the driver who hit her in a state park crosswalk that left her with serious injuries in June 2023.

While on vacation in California, then-city councilor Helen Anthony was crossing the entry road to Point Lobos State Natural Reserve when she was struck and run over by a 2013 Polaris GEM electric vehicle, according to state highway authorities.
