A tow truck driver in Illinois is facing charges for allegedly stealing multiple vehicles and selling them to scrappers, authorities said.
Illinois State Police said the investigation began when a victim contacted them on Feb. 12 to report their vehicle had been stolen from the site of a crash off the Bishop Ford Freeway on Interstate 94 near Beaubien Woods. After the crash, the owner contacted a private towing company and left the vehicle at the scene. When the tow truck arrived, however, the vehicle was gone.
Investigating troopers discovered a “suspect tow truck” had been traveling in the area and took the victim’s vehicle without authorization. The suspect tow truck, allegedly driven by 36-year-old Saeed E. Mustafa of Chicago Ridge, transported the stolen vehicle to a local junk car company. Mustafa allegedly provided the company with “false paperwork” in order to sell the vehicle…
