Spokane County man charged with attempted murder to enter hospice care

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – A 79-year-old man in Spokane County custody, charged with attempting to kill his wife, appeared in court Tuesday from his jail bed via Zoom.

Richard Anthony faces charges of first-degree attempted murder. According to court documents, his wife reported that they were sitting in their recliners when Anthony left for the garage. Upon his return, Anthony held a knife and attempted to stab her. She managed to grab the knife and bit him, forcing him to release it. Anthony then struck her three times in the head with a hammer.

Police arrived at the scene to find the wife bleeding on the porch. When questioned, Anthony reportedly confessed to planning the attack, stating that he intended to kill her…
