National Invasive Species Awareness Week: A reminder some plants can’t be sold in Anchorage soon

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – As the nation acknowledged National Invasive Species Awareness Week at the end of February, it’s a reminder for people in the Municipality of Anchorage that some plants will be illegal to sell or distribute starting May 31 of this year.

The Anchorage Assembly passed an ordinance in December that Assembly Chair Chris Constant had submitted.

“Essentially, it bans the importation and sale of the invasive species that are on the list,” he said. “The advocacy groups have done a really good job of rating them by their invasiveness, and we want to see the most invasive species reduced as quickly as possible.”…
