Berkeley County tips lead to major drug, gun seizure in Ladson

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCSC) — Community tips about suspicious activity in Ladson led Berkeley County deputies to arrest a man and seize large quantities of drugs, cash, and firearms, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

Rodney Mekhi Black, 24, of Ladson, faces charges of trafficking cocaine, trafficking methamphetamine, failure to stop for blue lights and sirens, possession of Schedule II controlled substance, possession of Schedule IV substance, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and 10 counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

In November 2025, the sheriff’s office received an online tip about suspicious activity at a home on Erskine Drive. Drug Enforcement Unit agents opened an investigation and identified Black as being involved in criminal activity, officials said.

On Feb. 26, deputies spotted Black driving at a high rate of speed on College Park Road. When they tried to pull him over, investigators say he refused to stop and threw narcotics out of his vehicle window as he fled. Deputies eventually stopped the car and took Black into custody…
