CINCINNATI (WKRC) – After nearly 83 years listed as missing in action, Private First Class Norton Vernon Retzsch, a Cincinnati native and Marine Raider killed during World War II, has been identified and will be laid to rest.
Retzsch disappeared July 9, 1943, during the battle of Enogai on the island of New Georgia in the Solomon Islands. He was declared non-recoverable in 1949.
Born May 9, 1918, Retzsch graduated from Hughes High School in 1937 and enlisted in the Marine Corps in September 1941. He later deployed to the Pacific and served with Company C, 1st Marine Raider Battalion…
