Cheatham County Commission passes resolution seeking more oversight with municipal utilities

With the effects of Winter Storm Fern still lingering for many Middle Tennesseans, a number of Cheatham County residents let their voices be heard to make sure the next battle with Mother Nature is on a more level playing field.

The Cheatham County Commission voted to approve a resolution at their Feb. 26 meeting asking the State for greater oversight of municipal utilities and allowing non-Davidson County residents in Nashville Electric Service’s coverage area to sit on the NES power board.

The resolution, drafted by 78th District Tennessee State Representative candidate and former Pleasant View mayor Perry Keenan and Cheatham County attorney Michael Bligh, states “The Cheatham County Commission formally requests State Representative Mary Littleton and State Senator Kerry Roberts to introduce and support legislation in the Tennessee General Assembly to establish a state-level regulatory body or expand the authority of the TPUC (Tennessee Public Utility Commission) to oversee consumer complaints and service reliability for all public and municipal utilities…
