Portage man survives ‘widowmaker,’ with help from wife, UH medics

Laura Siefer remembers the letters her husband, Jeff, formed with his finger on the palm of her hand the morning after he had open heart surgery at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

“The nurse asked him if he knew who I was,” said the Franklin Township resident. “He nodded his head and pulled me over to him so he could write on my hand.”

On a ventilator and unable to talk, the first letter Jeff Siefer formed was an “S,” which initially puzzled her. But when he then made the letter “T,” she got it…
