Wildlife officer shoots off deer antler, saving 2 bucks with 1 shot

DELAWARE COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) — A state wildlife officer successfully shot off the antler of a buck, saving the deer as well as another buck the animal had become entangled with, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

According to a field report, State Wildlife Officer Maurice Irish, assigned to Delaware County, responded to a report of two white-tailed deer bucks whose antlers had become locked together while fighting.

The ODNR said one of the bucks had netting stuck in its antlers which entangled the other buck as well.

“Officer Irish was unable to safely approach the bucks, but after ensuring an appropriate backstop he successfully shot off an entangled antler to separate the bucks,” stated the report…
