STEELTON, Pa. (WHTM) — Layoffs and restructuring could be coming soon at a financially-challenged Midstate school district.
At their work session Wednesday evening, Harry Mathias, the state-appointed chief recovery officer for the Steelton-Highspire School District presented a staffing and enrollment report which included up to 28 recommended furloughs.
Prior to outlining the recommendations, Mathias said the district is facing a $4.5 million budget deficit. The cuts would save $1.6 million in instructional and professional staff cuts and another $525,000 in administrative staff cuts.
