Sheriff Grady Judd says Polk County is ‘brokenhearted’ over soldier killed in Kuwait

POLK COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — People across Polk County have been mourning the loss of a local U.S. service member killed overseas, including Sheriff Grady Judd, who released a video statement Wednesday.

The sheriff is known for his social media presence, often recording videos where he holds up mugshots and discusses recent arrests. But Wednesday was a more somber occasion.

“Normally when I show this picture, it’s those who have violated the law, who don’t represent the best of society,” Judd said. “But today I have a photograph of someone who is the best of society. A hero. Captain Cody Khork.”

Khork, 35, was among six U.S. service members killed Sunday in Port Shuaiba, Kuwait when a drone struck a command center. The soldiers were supporting Operation Epic Fury, a coordinated strike between the U.S. and Israel against Iran.

“We’ll always appreciate his service, his infectious smile,” Judd said. “And we’re so brokenhearted that he lost his life. But he was protecting America when he did it. God bless you always Cody.”…
