Firm that conspired with nursing homes, swindled millions from Medicare and Medicaid, settles

A New York long-term care therapy provider will pay $315,000 to settle allegations that it conspired with a network of nursing homes in the Bay State and Connecticut to bilk millions of dollars from Medicare and Medicaid.

This comes more than a year after the state’s Attorney General’s Office and U.S. Attorney’s Office filed a lawsuit against RegalCare, the group of skilled nursing facilities, and Stern Therapy Consultants.

The lawsuit alleged the companies, between Jan. 1, 2017, and Sept. 30, 2019, altered documents to boost billing for increased long-term care services, even when patients didn’t need the services, which is against the law…
