Amarillo pools to be closed through summer as study bid process opens

The City of Amarillo announced Tuesday, March 3 that two of the city’s pools will be closed this spring and summer while studies are conducted to determine their future.

Following the direction of the Amarillo Parks and Recreation Board and the Amarillo City Council, Southwest Pool and Southeast Pool will both be temporarily closed, pending the completion of an engineering and feasibility study to address safety concerns, increasing maintenance costs and the future viability of the pools, the city said.

The Southeast Pool facility, located at 435 S. Osage St., was built in 1965, or nearly 60 years ago, while Southwest Pool, located at 4800 Bell St., was built in 1974, making it more than 50 years old…
