South Louisiana chemical company announces $3.4 billion expansion, more than 150 new jobs

Shintech announced Wednesday it will spend $3.4 billion to boost manufacturing capacity at its Plaquemine chemical plant, a move that will create 163 good-paying jobs.

The jobs will have an average annual salary of more than $117,000, according to Louisiana Economic Development. The expansion is also expected to create about 3,000 construction jobs. Construction employment is expected to peak in 2029.

This is the seventh major expansion at Shintech over the last 20 years, the most recent of which was a $1.25 billion project announced in early 2021 and completed in late 2024. The company has 725 employees at its Iberville Parish facility…
