Traffic stop leads to seizure of cash headed to Mexico

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) – A traffic stop involving a vehicle barreling towards Mexico at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour has led to the seizure of thousands of dollars in undeclared cash.

Court records show a New Mexico State Police officer on Friday observed a Chevrolet Trax bearing Chihuahua, Mexico, license plates going several miles above the speed limit heading south on Interstate 25 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

The officer caught up to the speeding vehicle and ordered the driver to stop. The driver identified as Sergio Castro was the sole occupant of the Chevrolet and reportedly provided inconsistent answers when asked where he was going.

Court records show the officer asked Castro for permission to search the car and detected two hidden compartments built into the floorboards of the SUV. More officers arrived on the scene and allegedly pulled from the compartments vacuum sealed bags with $20,000 in cash…
