Manilla Man Dies In Monday Evening Crash In Harrison County

A Manilla man was killed last night (Monday) after the vehicle he was driving collided head-on with a pickup truck in western Iowa. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 5:42 p.m. in Harrison County on U.S. Highway 30, about a mile southwest of Logan. Authorities say 30-year-old Merari Eduviges Perez of Manilla was traveling eastbound in a 2012 Toyota RAV4 when he crossed the centerline into the path of westbound traffic and struck a 2018 GMC Sierra, operated by 57-year-old Daryl Jay Fichter of Missouri Valley. Perez sustained fatal injuries in the collision, while Fichter was seriously injured and transported to Missouri Valley Hospital for initial treatment.
