East Houston Walmart to add sushi kiosk, grab-and-go bites, per TDLR permit

A Houston-area Walmart is getting a major upgrade tailored to customers looking for a quick bite to go. A permit has been filed to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for a $250,000 special project renovation at the 13700 East Fwy location near Channelwood. According to the filing, the project calls for new refrigerated grab-and-go cases, a new sushi kiosk, and updates to the checkout area.

Per the permit, construction is expected to begin in July and be completed by early August. The international supermarket chain has 24 stores in Houston. Of those, a company spokesperson told Chron that the East Fwy store will be the only one in the area undergoing a front-end transformation. It will remain open while renovations are being made.
