ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Police have identified the woman found dead in Albuquerque nearly 35 years ago. In June 1991, officers discovered the woman’s body in the bathtub of a Super 8 on University Blvd. An autopsy determined she died by suicide. She did not have any identification, so police called her “Becca Doe.”

Her identity remained a mystery for decades until this year, when police used genealogy to find her family and identify her as Becca Mallekoote. Her family confirmed they last saw her in 1991 when she left the Los Angeles area. She was 18 years old when she died, and the Albuquerque Police Department said Wednesday would have been her 53rd birthday.
In a news release, APD Interim Police Chief Cecily Barker said, “This case is a testament to our department’s commitment to never giving up on a case, no matter how much time has passed. By continuing to utilize advancements in technology and forensic genealogy, we are able to provide answers that were once thought impossible. Our goal is always to bring closure and a sense of justice to families who have spent decades wondering about their loved ones.”…
