Barberton Council discusses loss of confidence in Parks Department

BARBERTON — Barberton City Council March 9 will have its first of a scheduled three readings of two no-confidence declarations against both the city Parks Commission and Parks Director Don Patterson.

Councilman Dallas Moore (I-Ward 3) introduced the legislation at the Feb. 23 Parks and Recreation Committee meeting, citing the commission’s decision in a Jan. 13 executive session to retain Patterson following his arrest late last year for an incident outside work, which subsequently led to him being placed on paid administrative leave.

Moore said both Patterson and the commission — which has supervisory authority over the Parks and Recreation Director position — failed to contact Human Resources/Safety Director Jaime Iceman or Law Director Lisa Miller in a timely manner following Patterson’s arrest. Iceman also confirmed that Patterson and Parks Commission Chairman Dan Knorr gave her false information about the incident when questioned…
