Memphis resident calls out TDOT after damages claim denied for contradictory reasons

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A Memphis man is calling out the State of Tennessee after his damages claim for a blown tire was denied following a pothole strike on a state-managed road.

Saafir Muhammad was traveling north on Airways Boulevard and East Parkway when he hit a pothole on the bridge.

“I felt the world coming to an end, I hit a pothole so hard,” Muhammad said. “I get out, look at my tire. It’s just gone, just blew up.”

Muhammad initially filed a damages claim with the City of Memphis, which deferred him to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, arguing East Parkway/Airways is a state road…
