A Summerfield man was arrested on a charge of battery after allegedly pushing past his granddaughter to speak with her husband.
The granddaughter of 71-year-old Robert Franklin Toms spoke to a deputy about an alleged crime on Feb. 17, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. She stated that Toms battered her at a residence on Northeast 40th Place in Silver Springs on Dec. 23, 2025.
That day, she arrived at the residence to see Toms in the front yard. She tried to stop him from going inside, but he insisted on doing so to speak with her husband. She showed the deputy footage of him pushing past her as she held his arm to keep him out of the home, the report said.
Toms pushing his granddaughter at the doorway was not shown in the video, but once he got to the front door, he pushed her away. Her husband, who did not witness the push, saw Toms in his residence and had a brief disagreement with him. He later de-escalated the situation into a conversation and made further plans for the upcoming Christmas, the report said…
