Removed Redactions Reveal Data Center Contract Details

(MADISON) Now that key portions of Alliant Energy’s Beaver Dam data center contract have been made public, more details about the utility’s service contract with Meta are coming to light.

The Wisconsin Public Service Commission last week ordered Alliant to unredact portions of the contract so that the public could get a better look at it. The utility regulator also ordered Alliant to refile its application. According to WisBusiness.com, the Beaver Dam data center could use up to 220 megawatts of power. That’s less than other hyperscale data centers, but still a lot more energy than the residential power demand for most Wisconsin cities, including Madison.

Unredacted portions of the contract also reveal that the agreement is for ten years. Alliant would recoup its infrastructure and service costs if the data center shuts down or uses less power than expected. Specific numbers in those provisions are still redacted…
