Progress is underway in repurposing The former Bear Chest genetelmen’s club into a non-profit arts space. Founder of Virtuoso’s Mind’s and co-owner of the building Regina Hendrix shared with Eyewitness News she’s received the proper permits from the state to start reconstruction.
“it’s a well-known building, but we want it to be known for something positive for the community. A community center of sorts. A youth center of sorts. someplace that we know is safe.”
The Hendrix sisters took over the building in 2024. Since then, they say renovation progress has been slow but steady as they had to completely tear down the insides of the building. “Lots of different businesses have been in the building and you could tell they built upon itself,” Hendrix said. ‘There were layers and layers without stripping anything and we’ve been having to peel those back.”…
