Peoria Fire-Medical scaling back Lake Pleasant response amid jurisdiction dispute

PEORIA, AZ (AZFamily) — Peoria Fire-Medical announced it is pulling its operations out of Lake Pleasant. According to the City of Peoria, the lake falls out of their jurisdiction. Maricopa County says it manages Lake Pleasant Regional Park but doesn’t own it as the land is primarily owned by the federal Bureau of Land Management.

The county says the reservoir is part of the Central Arizona Project (CAP) so they don’t have water rights; those are controlled by the Maricopa Water District.

The city confirmed Fireboat 199 will be removed from the water and stored at the Peoria Fire-Medical Support Services Warehouse effective March 31. The announcement comes as temperatures rise and the lake recorded its first drowning of the year over the weekend.
