Over 100 horsemen and members of the equine community gathered Wednesday to rally in opposition to the U.S. Army’s plans to purchase the Middleburg Training Center and locate its famous Caisson Detachment there.
The Caisson Detachment – the team of horses and military riders that provide funeral honors for fallen service members and high-ranking dignitaries – is currently at the 40-acre NOVA Equestrian Center, or NEC, in Aldie.
Equine leaders with the Piedmont Foxhounds Conservation Fund and the Virginia Equine Alliance asked everyone jammed into the standing room-only meeting at Buchanan Hall in Upperville to help find other possible venues for the unit and for people to write and request the Army find a different location for the detachment…
