Potential city council candidates address Roanoke gun violence

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – A man was injured in a shooting near the Valley View area of Roanoke late Tuesday night, according to police. The incident spanned two scenes. The victim was treated at a hospital. Police stated no arrests have been made, but there is no danger to the public.

The shooting comes as gun-related deaths in Roanoke have increased in the early months of 2026. Six people have been killed in shootings in the city in the first two months of the year — nearly matching the nine gun-related deaths recorded in all of 2025.

Roanoke recorded 31 shooting deaths in 2023, its deadliest year on record. That number dropped to 10 in 2024, then fell again to nine in 2025…
