Toby Keith Expressway name approved, set to open in 2033

The late country music superstar Toby Keith was honored last week, as state lawmakers supported naming a future Oklahoma roadway in his honor.

HCR 1019 passed by unanimous consent in both chambers of the state legislature. It calls for Toby Keith Expressway to be the name of a controversial planned turnpike corridor that extends from I-44 in Newcastle east to I-35 in Norman, and continuing east and north to I-40 and the Kickapoo Turnpike near Newalla.

On Tuesday, the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority unanimously approved the name and raised Red Solo Cups in support. The turnpike is estimated to be completed in 2033…
