Jackson works to tackle illegal dumping, traffic light system

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson leaders are working to tackle some of the city’s biggest public works problems, from potholes to broken equipment to failing traffic lights.

One of the biggest concerns was the sudden shutdown of the city’s Illegal Dumping Unit. Councilmembers said illegal dumping is a growing problem across the capital city.

“As councilmembers, we became really dependent on that unit, because they were out there face to face with residents, working with residents, communities to help make sure that, you know, we catch these infiltrators and also make sure that we’re cleaning up our neighborhoods,” said Councilman Brian Grizzell, Ward 4.

He plans to introduce a resolution that will urge incoming Police Chief Dr. RaShall Brackney to restore the unit. In the meantime, Grizzell encouraged residents to report illegal dumping through the city’s 311 system…
