Sedgwick County property valuations rise more than 20% for some homeowners

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – New property valuations are out in Sedgwick County, and some homeowners say their home’s value increased by more than 20% in a single year. The county says the increases reflect market conditions and are outside its control.

The valuations come after Wichita voters rejected a sales tax proposition that had promised property tax relief.

Derby homeowner sees 23% increase

Matthew Leake, who owns a home in Derby, said his property valuation increased approximately 23% from the prior year.

“My house increased approximately 23 percent from the original valuation which will inevitably increase the taxes on our house,” Leake said…
