State officials warn public of deceptive door-to-door sales

HONOLULU (KHON2) — State officials from the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, Hawaiʻi Green Infrastructure Authority and the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs issued a warning to residents about deceptive door-to-door solar salespeople.

According to the HGIA, multiple reports have been made of these salespeople falsely claiming that a Hawaiʻi program offers free solar photovoltaic and energy solar systems.

State officials said that no such program of that manner exists, and that state employees do not sell solar systems or attempt to make similar sales-related calls, visits or other contact.

Watch out for employment scams

If residents come in contact with someone who claims to be a state employee, officials said that genuine state employees will have official photo ID cards to present as proof of their employment…
