Akron police seeking answers after Barberton grad killed in hit-and-run

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – Akron police are asking for the public’s help to identify the driver of an SUV involved in a hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 23-year-old pedestrian.

Investigators said it happened around 10:35 pm on Wednesday. APD officers and paramedics were called to the area of Russell Avenue, near Laurel Avenue in the city’s Sherbondy Hill neighborhood, after witnesses reported that a man walking along Russell was struck by a westbound SUV that failed to stop at the scene.

The victim, identified as 23-year-old Richard Williams of Akron, suffered severe injuries and later died at the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center.
