Colleges get a warning they can’t ignore
The U.S. Department of Education put more than 1,800 colleges on notice Feb. 18, 2026. The agency released updated data showing that those schools have nonpayment rates at or above 25%.
Under Secretary of Education Nicholas Kent said schools must do more to help borrowers repay their loans or risk losing access to federal student aid.
The warning comes as millions of borrowers are already behind on payments.
