FIFA formally agrees to pay World Cup security funding; Foxboro says it’s still not enough

FOXBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — The Foxboro Select Board finally appears to have it in writing.

The Boston Host Committee for the FIFA World Cup 2026 (Boston 26) and the Kraft Sports Group have formally agreed to pay the $7.8 million in security costs for the seven matches scheduled to take place at Gillette Stadium, according to a letter sent to the board Thursday.

This comes after weeks of back-and-forth between the board and the nonprofit over who would be footing the bill. The board has not yet issued an entertainment license to Boston 26 for the matches due to their uncertainty with the nonprofit’s plan to pay the costs upfront…
