GREENVILLE — The Wilson Prep girls basketball team didn’t take long to find its comfort zone against Falls Lake Academy of Creedmoor in the NCHSAA 1-A East Region final Thursday afternoon, March 5.
The Tigers, seeded No. 2 among 24 East teams, went right to work pressuring the top-seeded Firebirds into eight turnovers in the first five minutes of Wilson Prep’s 60-42 victory at Minges Coliseum on the East Carolina University campus. By the time sophomore Kaidyn Brown splashed her second 3-pointer of the first quarter at the 3:20 mark, Wilson Prep was up 13-2 and the Firebirds never recovered.
“They were ready. They were prepared,” said Wilson Prep head coach Mike Ward of his team after its 24th straight victory. “The mindset was right. The bus ride here, you could tell they were ready. You could hear a pin drop on the bus. That’s how focused they were. So they came out ready and fired up.”…
