Trial for man charged with killing a Huntsville Police officer delayed again

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — A man charged with capital murder in the shooting death of Huntsville Police Officer Garrett Crumby is still awaiting a trial date.

Juan Laws appeared in a Madison County Courtroom on Thursday for a status hearing. During the hearing, his defense attorney told Judge Allison Austin that it would be “at least another year” before they’d be ready to set a trial date.

Laws’ defense said they are still trying to secure a mitigation expert.

Madison County Chief Deputy District Attorney Tim Gann spoke with News 19 after the hearing. Gann said, “Mitigation is the most important part of the defense’s case, and they’re having trouble securing an expert.”…
