A Korean barbecue spot in Kalamazoo County celebrates 2 types of artwork

TEXAS TOWNSHIP, MI — Sura Korean BBQ Sushi is housed in an unassuming strip mall near the intersection of West Q Avenue and 8th Street.

But inside, colorful, abstract oil paintings line the black walls. A long, glossy bar spans the length of the dining room. Lively conversation wafts from the kitchen as a team of three Korean chefs prep traditional Korean dishes and sushi.

Owner Hyeri Chun is an artist with an interest in business, her husband Kiyul Cho said.

“As a family, we enjoyed making food and then having a meal together,” he said. “That led to a space where we can make food and serve people, and also showcase some of her artwork.”…
