Metro Council moves forward with plan to repair statue of King Louis XVI

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – The Louisville Metro Council is moving forward with a plan to pay a private company to clean graffiti off the city’s famed King Louis XVI statue.

A resolution approving a $205,000 contract passed the Labor and Economic Development Committee unanimously this week. The money was previously approved in the city budget.

The 250-year-old marble statue was removed from Jefferson Square Park during the 2020 protests after it was spray-painted and one of its hands was broken off. It is currently being kept in a city-owned storage facility…
