NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A community conversation, “Chat with the Chief,” featuring Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew, was canceled two weeks ago when the chief was called to a homicide scene in the city.
“Any time we have a loss of life, I think that’s important for me to be there,” Drew said.
In the days that followed, officers were called to even more deadly shootings. By the end of February, Newport News recorded five homicides in just 11 days…
