The voters and pizza lovers of Rhode Island have had their say. They’ve chosen the Sweet 16 pizzerias, restaurants and bakeries whose pies will advance to Round 2 of The Journal’s Best Pizza in Rhode Island voting bracket.
In a battle of Providence pizza titans, one a James Beard award winner and the other a two-time semifinalist, Al Forno bested Pizza Marvin by 100 votes. Al Forno’s Johanne Killeen and the late George Germon won the regional best chef award in 1993. Pizza Marvin chef/co-owner Robert Andreozzi has two nominations for the same honor in 2025 and 2023.
