A Chinese snack shop that debuted on Convoy Street less than two years ago has already shuttered, with signage now indicating the space will soon reopen under a new concept centered around braised duck specialties.
Jue Wei Food, which opened in late 2024 at 4698 Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa, has closed its San Diego location. The storefront is now being prepared for a replacement concept called LA Hot Duck, a brand with an existing location in Rowland Heights in Los Angeles County’s San Gabriel Valley.
The shift appears to bring the Convoy storefront closer to the type of concept Jue Wei was originally expected to offer: a display-style Chinese snack shop specializing in braised duck parts and other savory street food favorites. Photos taken inside the space show stainless steel trays filled with braised meats under heat lamps, alongside a menu listing a variety of duck and chicken parts sold by the pound. Items visible on the Chinese-language menu include spicy chicken wings, chicken feet, chicken racks, duck wings, duck necks, and gizzards, along with other braised snacks commonly found in Chinese “luwei” style shops…
