A former member of the Green Bay City Council is suing both the city and its mayor, claiming his constitutional rights were violated by the city’s use of audio recording devices in City Hall several years ago.
During a 2023 council meeting, then-Alder Chris Wery raised concerns about the city’s installation and use of recording devices in City Hall without notifying the public or City Council. That year, the state Senate and several others sued Green Bay and Mayor Eric Genrich over the use of the recording devices.
At the time, the city said the audio devices were installed in three of the 14 security cameras in City Hall beginning in 2021.
