El Paso student named finalist for prestigious UT Austin scholarship

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A Northwest Early College High School senior was named a finalist and the only El Paso student for a highly-competitive scholarship program at the University of Texas at Austin.

NWECHS senior Jacob Lozano, who plans to attend UT, is one of 60 finalists for the Forty Acres Scholars Program in the Class of 2030, and the only senior from El Paso. Additionally, he is among the top 0.6 percent of students to receive this honor, according to a news release by Canutillo Independent School District.

“It’s not surprising that Jacob has achieved this honor and that he’s among the best of the best among Texas students,” NWECHS Principal Frank Clark said. “He continues to showcase the talent that exists among Northwest students and the commitment to high-standards associated with Canutillo ISD.”

The program is a comprehensive scholarship package valued at about $800,000 to $1.2 million over four years, which includes tuition, housing, books and supplies, living expenses, study abroad opportunities and mentorship and leadership programs…
